Public
People still ask, "What exactly do you do?"
There's a gray area between Public Relations and Marketing, and sometimes
the two overlap.
Many people think that Public Relations is all about writing press relations
and getting clients coverage in newspapers, magazines, on television and
radio. And yes, we do this type of media relations. It is considered the
nuts and bolts of the Public Relations profession.
We also do work to launch new and exciting products and companies. We
focus on branding. We create events (for media, community and business
contacts) and help clients prepare for trade shows. We also help clients
communicate better to build strong relationships with their employees.
We write newsletters and websites and we produce public service announcements
for radio and television.
Reputation management, corporate responsibility and community involvement
are all aspects of public relations. Integrated messaging keeps communication
consistent between a client's media, brochures, websites and advertising.
The media world is changing and so is MSE...by keeping up with new technology
and "new media" such as bloggers, and using podcasts and RSS
feeds to help clients reach their audiences on popular turf. Marcia Simon's
roots as a radio and TV journalist are a real advantage when it comes
to using visual "media" like YouTube and MySpace for promotion.
Whether national, regional or local (statewide or specific DMA) MSE works
to nurture relationships with targeted writers and editors. While some
agencies go for volume-driven broad based releases, MSE uses a boutique-style
approach. Of course we do the mass mailings as appropriate. But we also
spend time developing our VIP lists customized for each client. We prefer
to handpick the most important, most influential reporters and develop
ongoing relationships.
